My friend Hanni from the Netherlands went on a bike trip with the children of our mutual friend Maria from Budapest. We all met at a Slovene summer school in 1973 and have stayed in touch with each other and with Lucka from Trieste. Here is Hanni's description of her photos from the trip.

Here the first foto's of Hungary. I had a wonderful holyday, and everything went as I had hoped (and expected). Our biketour started in the western part of Hungary (Köszeg) and via Györ, Tata and Tök we arrived 5 days later in Budapest. Maria's children Martin and Viki were very patient and waited for me when I could not climb as quickly as they could, but I warned them before that I am a granny. Some impressions of that part of the country: emptiness, huge grainfields, storks near a ploughing farmer, trees with mistletoe, rows of marihuana along a cornfield, and a 25 km long dike with "fresh" cobbles. We had mountainbikes, and in that case they were useful, but not on asfalt. Next (?) time I will take another type of bike. We had very hot and sunny weather during the whole week. After 2 days Budapest Maria, Zsolt, Viki, Martin and I drove to Bohinj and dropped me in the apartman that Alexandra and family lived in, while they had found rooms in the next village. Next day we had a good walk all together and Alexandra took Viki and Martin to a waterfall. After that we had a swim in lake Bohinj. Saskia (nearly 5) was very surprised about Maria's name: is this the mother of Jezus? she asked! And gave her a cooki. The next day Maria and family went on to Triest (Lucka) and I stayed. We were with 5 grown-ups and 5 children of 2, 4, 5 and 7 years old, and of course there were conflicts now and than. Merel told her nephews that Oma Hanni was "severe", but that was not a problem at all. We made some mountain tours with the whole bunch and they walked like goats for hours, very good! It is strange to realize that the fourth generation is now on holiday in Slovenija. Coming home at 11/8 people asked me about the floods in Austria and Germany. But we had not seen one spot of rain at all, we mostly tryed to find shadow. Now it seems to be bad in Budapest either. I hope you can open the attachment, I can send you more pictures. Till next email, love, Hanni.
